First day of VMworld 2014 was very intensive day. Like I wrote Yesterday I spent it mostly on sessions, exchanging knowledge with other VMware experts and in solutions exchange.

MGT1969 – vCloud Automation Center and NSX Integration Technical Deep Dive

Unfortunately I skipped this session – I will simply watch it on the Internet.

SDDC2556 – Customer Panel: Journey to Software Defined Datacenter

First of my sessions in VMworld 2014. Four gentleman’s were describing transformation of their IT departments from “old school” to “software defined”. All conversation  were followed up by real examples.

NET1743 – VMware NSX – A Technical Deep Dive

Topic of NSX is well-known for several weeks and I have to say I didn’t learn anything new. For me “demos” were too fast and one of presenters was commenting it all the time “this is easy”. I didn’t like it because for persons who might never seen NSX it was not so easy.

VAPP2979 – Advanced SQL Server on vSphere Techniques and Best Practices

This was second session I skipped.

STO2752-SPO – A Significant Step Towards Better Managed VM Storage Infrastructure; Deploying VMware VVol with Hitachi Data Systems

Another quite good session of first VMworld day. In short words presenters described what VVol’s are and what transformation will happen in VMware / Storage world. To follow-up session I visited Hitachi booth where VVol’s were described once again.

Solutions exchange

Like most of the attendants I visited solutins exchange where various vendors were presenting their solutions. I grabbed few t-shirts, some vendor gifts and I discussed some interesting topics with them.

I meet with my colleague from Kraków vExpert and blogger Maciej Lelusz @maciejlelusz and finally I was able to meet another blogger and vExpert Marek Zdrojewski @MarekDotZ. I met as well other polish colleagues and we chatted for a bit and made plan to meet at Veeam party.

PernixData Party

This was my first party at VMworld 2014 which held place in Ocaña Placa Reial 13-15. There is nothing to say than it was quite ok. I saw Frank Denneman @FrankDenneman from PernixData and Eric Sloof @esloof. I have to say that food was very good followed by nice drinks. Below there are some pictures from Party.

Veeam Party

After first day I registered myself to Veeam party. I have heard stories from earlier years that this is the best party which you should attend. Event was held in Shoko Club near the beach. Shoko Club welcomed me warm with cool drinks and beautiful dancers. After a while tasty food arrived and DJ started to play songs. To be honest Veeam party was the best one so far I attended. Below you will find three pictures from Party.

Besides all I described above I did small other things like:

  • I saw Pat Gelsinger CEO VMware on the stairs (I was going up, he was going down).
  • I did paper plane donation in amount of 40$ to children.
  • I barely touched lunch because I didn’t know that it is not served where sessions are held.
  • I bought a lot of clothes from VMware store, because Europe store has nothing to offer and this was my only chance to grab cool stuff.
