After upgrading my old QNAP TS-453A to a QNAP TS-873 with 8 bays and tons of storage I finally had some time to explore additional storage options for my homelab. Now with 2 pools of storage with total capacity of ~ 35TiB I finally could start to use my NAS much more efficient.
In the previous post Configure QNAP NFS as VMware ESXi Dastastore I showed you how to configure QNAP NFS share as VMware ESXi Datastore.
In this post I will show you how to create a VMware ESXi datastore using iSCSI.

It has been a while since I wrote about NFS datastores and VMware ESXi. In my previous post How to add NFS export to VMware ESXi 6.5I used NFS server on my host back then. In this post I will show you how you can use QNAP NFS exports with VMware ESXi.
For all of us 2020 has been a very different Year than before. We faced so many challenges, in many countries we were literally locked in our houses, we faced illness and job losses. Fortunately for the IT world 2020 wasn’t as challenging as for the others. In this post I would like to share with you what I have been up to in 2020.
I am a private Linux user since many Years and I always have used combination of username and password to authenticate when logging via Secure Shell (SSH). It worked pretty well for Years but recently as my Linux footprint grew it started to be very tiresome. I knew that there is this “magical way” to login without password but I was reluctant to try it out. Once I tried it out I loved it and I never ever want to user password to authenticate with SSH. In this post you will learn how you can use combination of public and private keys to login to VMware ESXi.
Today I wanted to install a fresh vCenter Server Appliance for further automatic provisioning with Terraform. When I wanted to install the vCenter Server Appliance I faced an error while I tried to mount ISO in Finder and execute the install.
In 2017 I wrote about my new My HomeLab purchase. If you want to take a look on my HomeLab details use link Supermicro SuperServer E300-8D. It costs me a lot because I upgraded it to maximum capacity in terms of RAM and I was very happy about it. I installed my whole VMware environment and I was kind of using it.
vSphere 7.0 was announced by VMware quite a while ago vSphere 7.0 announcement but only recently I had some time to upgrade my Home Lab to vSphere 7.0.
In this post I will show you the procedure to upgrade ESXi to vSphere 7.0 using esxcli commands.
